was a continuation of Isaiah 9:6-7, which says:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
Our pastor is focusing in on Isaiah 9:6 for the entire month of advent. This past week, he talked in depth about the part of the verse that most everyone seems to want to ignore:
…and the government shall be upon his shoulder…
As someone who listens to political radio and has an interest in what’s going on (or, in some cases, what’s NOT going on) in Washington D.C., I found this message to be great. It didn’t sell very well at the counter that I volunteer at, but that’s because there wasn’t much, if any, application tied to it. Instead, it’s a message to tell us what’s wrong with our current system and what perfect government will look like when Jesus returns.
